The lounge was the perfect size to see a great band – here’s the crowd when Bombay Bicycle Club took to the stage.

The walls were covered with a wealth of montaged memories by Jimmy T. Vintage music magazines screen printed with statement graphics, alongside layered collages of musical heros, with mix and match decades of best music moments.

Inside the lounge we created a world of music memories, through sculptures and 3D installations. These letters encapsulated individuals music moments from hippy festi, to mod muso to punk rocker. We had original memorabilia montages by JimmyT, laser cut record vinyl in musical outlines, a flypostered stage set, music-memory characters – ‘record head boy’ and ‘electro eye girl’ , sound system trompe l’oeil, cupcakes sold on record vinyl displays, platinum awards for ‘my best ever mix-tape ever’ and lots more…

One of ‘the’ places to be at the festival, the Lounge attracted a diverse crowd through it’s brilliant line up including Ebony Bones, The Bombay Bicycle Club, Little Boots and DJ’s from Horse Meat Disco.

It was the perfect spot to grab a paper, a cup of tea, and lounge in an 80’s sofa to some eclectic tunes, whilst escaping the festival craziness for a while.

As usual at Glastonbury – it rained! So the Guardian bag that came free with the paper was put to the test… ironically it was illustrated with a sunny-day rock n roll ice-cream musical memory – great when the sun eventually did come out.

I currently design and art direct for Guardian Creative – an internal design agency for the Guardian Media Group. At GC we work alongside the editorial teams of The Guardian and The Observer on a wide variety of projects – more GC work here

The Guardian has been a media sponsor of Glastonbury festival over the last 5 years. Last year I got the opportunity to create the look and feel of the Guardian marketing activity. The concept was ‘Flyposter my Life’, and we commissioned the brilliant illustrator Jimmy Turrell to work his magic – You can check out more of Jimmy’s work here
